Alfred-Arthur Brunel de Neuville
Many of de Neuville's works have been made into prints so that we all,
to some extent, "know" his paintings. There were two artists
named de Neuville both with the initial "A", so that there is
inevitable risk of confusion. Certainly more than one web-site selling
prints does confuse them. Happily not only were their styles (and subjects)
quite different but Alphonse de Neuville who painted e.g. "the Defence
of Rorke's Drift", signed "A de Neuville" wheras Alfred
Arthur Brunel de Neuville signed (as here): "Brunel Neuville".
Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville was born in Paris and specialised in
still life paintings (many in the style of this painting) as well as paintings
of cats. His works were exhibited at the Societe des Artistes Francais
and he was elected a member of the Societe in 1907. His works are in the
collections of museums in Beziers, Brest, Chateau Thierry and Louviers.
