AUGUSTE BALLIN
I have six of Ballin's watercolours for sale. They are superbly
executed and show wonderful detail, depicting that fascinating,
transitional period when sail changed to steam.
Born in Boulogne on the 17th. March 1842, Ballin was a pupil of
Jules Noel. He became both a marine painter and an (acid) etcher.
Ballin exhibited paintings and etchings at the Royal Academy in
London (between 1872 and 1879) as well as in Paris.
Four of Ballin's etchings and a group of his drawings are in the
collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. The Naval
Club in Hill St. Mayfair now owns Ballin's oil paintings of the
Battle of Trafalgar.
